Meet Our Team
Ankita Joshi - CEO
Ankita graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Currently, she is working as a Design Release Engineer at General Motors. Ankita believes that the purpose of engineering is to help and delight people! As a sophomore in college, she also started an organization called Socially Engaged Engineers (SEE), which provides students with courses, workshops and resources to use engineering for social change.
Michelle Nie - CFO
Michelle graduated from UC Berkeley in 2016 with a BS in Business Administration. She currently works as a Treasury Analyst at Salesforce in San Francisco. At Berkeley, she was president of 100 Strong, a female mentorship organization empowering underserved young girls to become leaders through designing community projects. She was also a Summer Fellow through New Sector Alliance, working on a human resources consulting project for Reading Partners. She has also served as a mentor for CollegeSpring, teaching the SAT to underserved high school students and guiding them through the college applications process.
Nandita Sampath - COO
Nandita is a recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science. She has previously worked at Applied Materials and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. She is really passionate about STEAM education and making it more accessible to underprivileged students. She is currently working as an optical engineer at a virtual reality start up in the Bay Area, and hopes to attend law school to work in the intersection between policy and technology.
Kevin Mahoney - Director of Partnerships
Kevin is a third year mechanical engineering student with EECS and public policy minors at UC Berkeley. He wants to promote STEAM education as he believes that many issues within the communities can best be solved with a combination of technical know-how and a social consciousness with a strong understanding of framing solutions to familiar problems. He is very excited to give back to the communities and districts that he hails from, after engaging in community engineering projects in West Oakland, Lindsay, East Porterville, Brighton, and Crystal Palace, London.
Aubrey Larson - CSO
Aubrey graduated from UC Berkeley in 2016 with a degree in Public Health. She currently is employed at The Pill Club, a birth control tele-medicine clinic and delivering pharmacy. She has a background in global health, working with grassroots organizations in Timbutini, Swaziland. She is passionate about innovation and social justice and hopes to pursue a MBA to further her career in the intersection of these two fields.
Meet Our Board Members
Alice M. Agogino is the Roscoe and Elizabeth Hughes Professor of Mechanical Engineering and affiliated faculty at the Haas School of Business in their Operations and Information Technology Management Group. She directs the BEST Lab: Berkeley Energy and Sustainable Technologies | Berkeley Expert Systems Technology | Berkeley Emergent Space Tensegrities. She currently serves as Chair of the Development Engineering Graduate Group and Education Director of the Blum Center for Emerging Economies.
Jacie Jones is the Managing Director of GreenPath Food, a startup organic food company commercializing smallholder permaculture in East Africa. Prior to GreenPath, Jacie served as an advisor and manager at Big Ideas, a Berkeley-based innovation contest that provides seed funding and startup support to early-stage innovators and entrepreneurs with a social mission. Jacie also has experience as a regional manager and technical advisor with TechnoServe, an international NGO focused on business and enterprise development, and as a consultant supporting early-stage startups, incubators and accelerators, both internationally and in the Bay Area.
Mariana is an experience designer, strategist, and consultant passionate about helping companies and organizations incorporate human-centered design strategies in meeting their business goals. She currently is collaborating on launching a management consulting firm focused on employer branding, recruiting strategies, and experience design, and lectures in design-thinking and innovation at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. Previously, she facilitated design-led business solutions for companies including Turner Broadcasting, and Nike Foundation. Before that she was a designer with architecture firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM). Mariana holds an MS in Industrial Design from ArtCenter College of Design, and an MBA from Claremont University.
Deniz Dogruer, with a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering, is currently working on her PhD in Engineering Education at UC Berkeley. She has several years of experience in curriculum development and teaching middle school math and science. She has studied the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in depth and has experience developing NGSS aligned curriculum. She is especially interested in utilizing engineering design, more specifically student explanations of design decisions, to foster a deep scientific conceptual understanding.
